Our history
The roots of L.A. Rubber Co. can be traced back to 1898, a year when the typewriter was a technological marvel and the bicycle was yet to exist. It was during this time that L.A. Rubber would start business under female ownership.
The company began as a small company located in Los Angeles, CA near Chinatown on North Broadway. The company was a distributor of general mill products, including industrial lubricants, hose, packing, and various other rubber products. It was purchased in 1915 by a group of businessmen from the Seattle area - one of which being Stanley K. Durfee, the grandfather of Mechanical Drives & Belting.
During the latter part of a quarter century, the company relocated to 124 Third Street, closer to what was then the financial district. Upon the acquisition of the Degen Fiege Company in 1963, the company relocated once more to its current location at 2915 E. Washington Blvd. in Los Angeles.
Then in 2002, Mechanical Drives Co. merged with L.A. Rubber Co. thus giving us a broader base of products and services.
In 2005 L.A. Rubber Co. officially changed its name to Mechanical Drives & Belting to reflect the broader range of industrial components we supply. Today, Mechanical Drives & Belting is one of the leading distributors of industrial supplies including AC/DC Motors, Speed Reducers, Conveyor Belting, Bearings, and a complete range of motion control and rubber products.
We continue to strive for excellence to this very day.
